Making dreams happen

The Bow Rocking Horse is a favourite for most lovers of Rocking Horses. What a marvellous toy for any child! You can picture the rider rocking madly and propelling forward.

The way the bow fits around the horse increases the size of the toy. A large horse(similar to Pegasus) on a bow, takes up a great deal of space in the nursery, and is a little impractical. That is why a smaller horse on a bow rocker is the most popular.

The smaller horse presents greater challenges for me when it comes to handling and harnessing, but looks great in a miniature setting.

Blocking and carving a rocking horse

I have shown below the before and after states of the process which gives some insight into the making of a 1/12th scale small bow rocking horse

The horse at its first blocked stage

Here you see a rocking horse with some initial carving, blocked up and ready for final carving down

The horse is now ready for sizing, painting, sealing, saddling and fitting of the mane and tail

The finished bow rocking horses

Shown below are my two latest finished bow rocking horses ready for play

Bow rocker with black mane

This is a smaller horse than the large glider 'Pegusus'.
From bow end to bow end the model measures 4.75 inches (11.9 cm)

Bow rocker with white mane

The doll rider shows the size of the horse as both are to 1/12th scale.

In an average dolls' house miniature room, a large glider horse on a bar covers too much space.

This smaller horse is more practical in a dolls' house setting.
