About Helen's Tricycle Horses

Helen has had a burning desire to make a tricycle horse for some years. The difficulty has always been the engineering. That is, the wheels, the fork, the mounting, but most of all, the wheels.

Creative collaboration

The tricycle horses you see today were achieved with the help of a great husband and a mutual friend, Ern Day.

Helen's husband, Ken Dickins, turned the metal wheel sections - wheel rims, hubs and bushes - and Ern Day designed and made the spoke-gluing jig.

Developed from an original carving

Merlin is cast in resin. The mould was made from Helen's master horse, carved in wood.

The rough casting was refined, painted, sealed, saddled and bridled, and the mane and tail were added.
